Mission of Hope Community e-Updates

Ramadan Food Drive Campaign

This is the first year for our Ramadan Food Program. Subhan Allah, we have had an overwhelming need for individual and family hampers. Alhamdulillah, with food donations from Muslim warehouses, Islamic schools, both the Muslim and non-Muslim community, we were able to provide food hampers for a total of 640 families. The total cost of one hamper is equivalent to $45.00. That project alone in order to make the 640 food hampers needed was around $27,520.00 worth of non-perishable foods. We are asking for further support from the community to donate much needed funds as we had not expected such demand, but we wanted to respond to those in desperate need.
Family hampers went to the families of the terminally ill, refugees and asylum seekers from Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and other various linguistic and ethnic backgrounds. It is sad that the reality is we have a great number of brothers and sisters here in Sydney, who have escaped the war and are homeless and living in mosques and musallas with no source of income, and have gone unnoticed.
Subhan Allah, without the help of Muslim businesses and individuals who have generously donated their money and time, this project would not have been possible. Unfortunately though, there are still struggling families who require hampers, which we still have not provided for.The amount of hampers needed was beyond our expectations, and as a result, we have completely exhausted our funds to continue this project, and are struggling to continue our annual Eid Gift Drive. Community-Based Ramadan Iftars in 2010
In 2010, we hope to extend this program to offering a free Iftar to the needy individuals and families in the Auburn areas. We will be working closely with Auburn local organisations including Auburn Community Development Centre, African Muslim Societies, and other community groups, to host weekly Iftars so that families and individuals can enjoy breaking fast in the spirit of community service. Eid Gift Drive
Prophet Muhammad was most generous in giving gifts. At times, he associated giving gifts as an act of Ibadah. The Eid Gift Drive in its fourth consecutive year, aims to bring joy to less privileged and sick children in hospitals (Muslim and non-Muslim), the aged in care facilities, Muslims in detention centres, etc. Our volunteers wrap gifts in colorful gift wrapping, and attach a greeting card with wishes of a Happy Eid on behalf of the Muslim community, then sorted the gifts by age and gender, and finally distributed these gifts to a variety of centres.

Eid Gifts will be distributed to Sydney, Adelaide (with the assistance of Ayn Academy www.aynacademy. com ), and Perth (with the assistance of Muslim Women Support Centre in WA (http://www.muslimte nts.com/mwscwa )
